My Journey in Engineering: From IT at IIIT Vadodara to Chemical Engineering at NIT Bhopal

Every journey begins with a choice, and mine was a combination of rankings, personal interests, and a dash of reality. My path to college and my chosen branch reflects the intricate dance between aspiration and practicality.

Seventh Round of JoSAA Counseling

My journey began with the seventh round of JoSAA counseling, where I secured a spot at IIIT Vadodara in the IT-CISA list.

I specifically opted for the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) branch at IIIT Vadodara due to its median salary of 13.5 LPA. While CSE students there enjoy their college life, a segment of the ECE students I met were visibly stressed by the heavy workload. The placement records for ECE this year were notably poor, which made me lean towards a more stable and rewarding branch.

Switch to NIT Bhopal

I chose NIT Bhopal over alternative options like VIT, Manipal, SRM, or New IIITs solely due to the placement scenario. dropping my seat for management or CSE at other colleges was not an option for me. NIT Bhopal offered a promising outlook on branch switching and was the best fit for my needs.

It was a tough decision as most students prioritize earning a high salary without fully understanding the scope of different engineering branches. My rank was low, limiting my options to some chemical or metallurgy branches in the top 10-12 Nits, apart from the top 5.

After careful consideration, I opted for material science and metallurgical engineering. It was an upgrade to chemical engineering after the first year, thanks to my first-year CGPA. Despite the challenges, I felt the decision was justified given the potential for better prospects in chemical engineering.

Capstone of my decision was the orientation program at NIT Bhopal, which spanned from July 24th to August 1st. Despite the initial 8-day orientation being tedious, the beauty of the campus and the friendly atmosphere made the journey worthwhile.

Personal Reflections

Every branch in engineering has its unique charm and potential, especially if you can develop a passion for it. For me, each branch was viewed neutrally as my educational background didn't heavily favor any particular area.

The decision-making process involved a blend of rankings, personal interests, and practical realities. For those feeling lost in the maze of engineering branches, remember that every path you take can lead to success, particularly with a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.

Reflections on my journey don't end here. My initial decision to apply for NIT Silchar showcased a different mindset. With a CRL of 21k in JEE Mains, I filled my choices with NITs, hoping for a seat in Telangana. However, all my hopes were met with EE at NIT Sikkim in the first round.

After one round of expectations, EE got upgraded to EE in the second round. But the reality was harsh as my hopes of securing ECE didn't materialize. Despite the long journey from my home for enrolling, the beauty and scenes of the campus were a refreshing sight. I have attached some stunning pictures of my stay at NIT Silchar.

The weather here is something special, with unpredictable rain and stunning views that make the journey worth it. The library and the scenery around the campus are a testament to the serene environment that awaits you here.

My decision to move to NIT Silchar was not just about the technical possibilities but also about the opportunities to explore and grow as an individual. It was the start of a new chapter in my life, and the scenery around the campus adds a touch of natural beauty to this transition.

My path from IT to chemical engineering is a story of adaptation and growth. The road ahead is full of possibilities, and I am excited about the 4-year journey ahead at NIT Silchar, hoping it will be filled with beautiful moments and learning experiences.
