From Dreams to Reality: My Journey in Engineering and Fitness
Life is a journey of dreams and aspirations. It's about finding passions and turning them into reality. In this article, I will share some of my personal experiences and how I turned my dreams into achievements.
My Early Dream of Marriage
At the tender age of 17, I got married to a man who was 21 years old. We had kissed only twice before the wedding and it was a parental arrangement. We didn't have much time to fall in love. But we did make it to our 50th anniversary, working for over 60 years for a 100th. Both our parents didn't make it even to 10 years of marriage. Despite the challenges, we remained happy and had three daughters and nine grandchildren.
Building the Fitness Industry
My dream of working full-time in the fitness industry came true in the 1970s. The fitness industry didn't exist in Australia back then, so I was one of the pioneers who contributed to its creation by opening the first co-ed family fitness center. This was a labor of love and a profession that I preferred over structural engineering. I enjoyed working on the human version of fitness.
Deciding the Career Path
When I was young, I was faced with the decision of choosing between science, commerce, or arts for my career. Initially, I was stressed and unsure. A part of me was drawn towards science and engineering. I had a vivid dream where I was in an office with two desktops assigned to me, a scenario that was quite unusual at the time. When I joined a company, to my surprise, I found myself with two desktops to work with. It turned out to be a fulfilling and unprecedented change.
Continuing the Cycle of Dreams
From a young age, I had dreams of owning a car. Today, I do have one, and I plan to keep improving the quality of my transportation. Another dream was to have a good job. Thanks to my hard work and efforts, I am currently employed with a prestigious public sector unit (PSU). I am still chasing my dreams, and there is no end to what I believe I can achieve.
My journey has taught me that dreams are never-ending, and it is essential to not give up on our aspirations. I continue to dream and work towards making those dreams a reality. Here’s to more successes and fulfilling moments in life.
Fingers crossed!
