The Drive from Las Vegas to Zion National Park: A Guide to the Scenic Journey
The drive from Las Vegas to Zion National Park is a breathtaking journey that takes approximately 2.5 hours.
Navigating the Route
Starting from Las Vegas, you have a couple of options for reaching Zion National Park. The primary route involves driving north on Interstate 15 (I-15) until you cross into Utah. At this point, you need to take a few key turns:
1. Take a right on the Southern Parkway and continue on Utah Highway 7 (US-7).
2. Drive directly into Hurricane, Utah, and then turn right at the Maverick gas station. 3. Continue on this road until you reach La Verkin, then turn right at the Maverick gas station. 4. Follow this road all the way to Zion National Park.Alternatively, you can fly to St. George, Utah, rent a car and drive directly into the park, which takes about an hour. St. George is also a good starting point if you don’t feel like driving the entire distance.
Scenic Routes and Attractions
The 160-mile drive offers many scenic views, including a detour to the Valley of Fire, a worthwhile short detour. The journey includes the Virgin River Gorge, a particularly challenging and scenic stretch of the freeway, which took about five years to build and is now a marvel of engineering and beauty.
Along the way, you will also drive through the Virgin River Gorge, a stunning natural formation. The drive is usually around two to three hours, with regular stops to admire the views and take in the landscapes.
Alternative Scenic Route
Those looking for an even more scenic route can take an additional 45 minutes to reach the park via an alternate scenic route. Despite this longer route, the journey remains worthy of your time.
