Eugene has a robust community and a relaxed vibe, which has been a big part of its charm. Specific Areas to Avoid

For women, it is advisable to exercise caution and carry self-defense tools like a mace or stun gun. Additionally, it is strongly recommended to avoid downtown Eugene and the Blair Street area after dark. It’s crucial to stay away from the 7th Street bridge, as the risk of being mugged or assaulted is high. The 7th/Ferry Street Bridge should also be avoided at night for similar reasons. These areas are notably more hostile, making them less safe compared to other parts of the city.

Safe Areas and Recommendations

While Eugene is generally safe, it's important to be aware of certain pockets in the downtown area where crime rates have increased. The far South of Campus, particularly areas near the Pioneer Cemetery, should be avoided, especially at night. The cemetery's secluded nature makes it a less favorable environment for a potential attacker.

Blair Street can also be a less welcoming environment during the night, especially as it is a popular location for pub crawls. It is recommended to have a friend or use ride-sharing services like Uber, especially if you plan to visit this area. The 7th Street bridge, in particular, is not recommended for staying overnight.

In many cities run by progressive governance, including Eugene, crime rates have surged due to policies that refrain from holding criminals accountable. Prosecutors have adopted the stance that holding criminals after lawful arrests is "racist," leading to a release of individuals back into society. This lack of enforcement has contributed to making certain areas of the city more dangerous after dark.
