Glass-Domed Train Service Between Visakhapatnam and Araku Valley: Resuming Operations Post-COVID Lockdowns

What's the Current Status of the Glass Train Service Between Vizag and Araku Valley?

As of my most recent update in August 2023, the glass train service between Visakhapatnam (Vizag) and Araku Valley had faced a significant disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The service, typically known for its stunning glass domes and panoramic views, was put on hold for nearly nine months, starting from March 22, 2021, due to travel curbs and safety concerns. However, discussions and plans for its potential restart have been in the works as tourism began to recover.

Resumption of Glass Dome Train Service

The Indian Railways has officially announced the resumption of the glass-domed Vistadome coach service between Visakhapatnam and Araku Valley. After a period of almost nine months, the service is set to resume from December 19, 2023.

A key announcement by AK Tripathi, the senior divisional commercial manager of the Waltair division, highlights the revival of this unique travel experience. Tripathi mentioned that the Vistadome coach will be attached to the train from December 18. This coach offers 40 comfortable seats and a passenger fare of Rs 650, making it a popular choice for both tourists and travelers alike.

Enhancements and Stops

To meet the growing demand and provide a more memorable and comfortable journey, additional stoppages have been planned. The Vistadome coach will now make stops at significant tourist attractions like Borra Caves, ensuring that travelers can explore these sites without missing out on the scenic journey.

The train service will operate under the following timetable:

The train 08514, the Visakhapatnam-Araku-Kirandul special express, will leave Visakhapatnam daily from 6:45 am until January 20, 2024, and is expected to arrive at Araku around 11 am. The return train 08513, the Kirandul-Araku-Visakhapatnam special express, will depart Araku daily at 4 pm, returning to Visakhapatnam on January 21, 2024, at 8:20 pm.

Additional Service Enhancements

Besides the Vistadome coach, a new sleeper class has also been added to enhance the travel experience. This makes the trip more comfortable and attractive to a wider range of passengers.

Booking Details

For enthusiasts looking to book tickets, the Vistadome coach has been designated as train No. 00501 with the same morning departure as train 58501. The class of booking is 1A, and the fare is Rs. 625. This setup ensures convenience and hassle-free travel for all.
